I think living a life of significance could be something that most people would like to know they have done by the time they say goodbye to this beautiful place. Today’s activities made me want to know why and what that word really means, so I looked it up. The Oxford Language Dictionary defines it as “the quality of being worthy of attention; importance”.
I once thought that meant leaving a large impact on a large amount of people, or living a big life that made huge change to this world or had significant material possessions to give large quantities of money to causes and help people financially. While those are noble endeavors and ways to live a significant life, I now believe each person can live a life of significance no matter the outcome or breadth or depth of impact or reach. It just takes actually living vs. just existing and taking your eyes off yourself a bit, loving your neighbor as yourself. Taking note of beautiful moments and thanking our creator for each has created significance in my life.James 4:10 says, “Humble yourselves in the sight of The Lord, and He will exalt you.” This verse shares a similar idea, but in mindset, not just actions. Therefore living a grand life isn’t a prerequisite for significance.
This week I experienced a good deal of living a significant life in each encounter I was blessed with by sweet dear women in my life. From my morning walk Monday, to the spontaneous dinner we had Tuesday, to sharing a health journey over a cup of tea Wednesday, to hearing some incredible kid’s speeches at speech club Thursday to checking some homeschooling boxes with a friend today, this week was beautifully significant. It’s amazing to me that I have been so abundantly blessed with the gift of sewing relationship seeds with these incredible friends. Each connection with another child of God is such a gift, miracle experiencing miracle, coming together only by the allowance of the creator. Thank you Lord for the rich miracles of relationship I have the privilege of having in my life.
