Beauty

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Have you heard that one before? I believe that is true. I also believe some things are beautiful whether the beholder thinks them so or not. Beauty, like much of life, can be a truth not yet perceived or understood. There have been so many moments in my life that I didn’t realize were precious and beautiful until they were gone or lost, especially the mundane or seemingly small.

Today the girls and I got our hair trimmed at a salon. It’s interesting explaining the need for hair cuts to two daughters that want to grow their hair to the floor and never get a hair cut again. I tried to make the experience fun calling it a girls day out, booking appointments, grabbing good books on our way out, pointing out all the beautiful things throughout the salon, and getting coffee and treats afterwards. I think it worked. They agreed it was a fun experience to be pampered at a salon and I was able to keep their hair healthy with a trim. Taking care of our hair, trimming it, washing it, seemingly mundane tasks, can result in a beautiful outcome.

I don’t think I would have always looked at completing mundane tasks as beautiful. I have learned, as most probably do as they get older, these seemingly small moments are what make up a life. Most moments aren’t big and beautiful and grand. They’re small and quaint and quiet. Together moments, living life and taking care of each other are the most beautiful of which I am forever grateful.
